Reported 12 months ago

Taiwan's major telecommunications companies, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone, and Chunghwa Telecom, are seeing success with their respective OTT video platforms. Taiwan Mobile's MyVideo has achieved high viewership and increased new user sign-ups by nearly 50%, while Far EasTone excels in acquiring popular Japanese and Korean drama content, attracting more paying users and a significant increase in free member views. Chunghwa Telecom's Hami Video was ranked as the top domestic preference among users and the number one telecom OTT platform in a recent survey. With the upcoming Paris Olympics, Chunghwa Telecom has secured new media broadcasting rights and will introduce AR augmented reality technology for the first time in Olympic history, aiming to significantly increase its paid users and reach a target of 3 million subscribers. As the summer season boosts viewership for OTT platforms, the telecom giants are expanding their investments in content and international shows to attract more users, competing against global streaming giants like Netflix and Disney+. MyVideo's co-produced drama 'The Bad Kids' has topped the drama category, and the network-exclusive show 'Flower Boys' dominates the program category, with both experiencing a significant increase in views compared to the previous year. Interactive reality shows and concert programs continue to drive traffic, with an increased viewing time and number of views compared to last year. These successes indicate a growing scale for local OTT platforms amidst increased competition and innovative content strategies implemented by the telecom companies.
