As social media services increasingly cause interpersonal relationship issues, many American teenagers are opting to abandon smartphones and revert to using more traditional 'feature phones.' Studies have shown excessive use of social media can overstimulate the production of addictive substances in the brain, leading to negative psychological impacts, especially in children. The popularity of social media has also caused problems in interpersonal relationships among teenagers, prompting Generation Z (those born between 1990 and 2010) in the US to choose functional smartphones instead. HMD Global, which owns the well-known Nokia brand, has seen a significant increase in sales of feature phones since 2022, with monthly sales surpassing ten thousand units. This trend indicates a shift in the market for feature phones from regions like the Middle East, Africa, and India to other areas.
