A Virgin Australia Boeing 737 plane experienced a bird strike shortly after takeoff from Queenstown Airport, resulting in a massive explosion and fire in the engine, injuring a crew member and a passenger. The flight made an emergency landing at Invercargill Airport in New Zealand. Passengers described the terrifying experience of the engine making loud explosion sounds and catching fire, with the pilot mentioning a bird strike as the cause. The incident is currently under investigation.
