During a questioning session in the Legislative Yuan, Kuomintang lawmaker Weng Xiaoling criticized President Lai Ching-te's statement on cross-strait relations and demanded Defense Minister Gou Li-hsiung to adopt a policy of 'counterattacking the mainland' to regain the territory of the Republic of China. In response, Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Wang Ding-yu questioned whether Weng was advocating for military conflict or surrendering to the mainland, highlighting the tensions between recognizing mainland China and upholding Taiwan's sovereignty.
