Yi Da-ming, Taiwan's representative in the U.S., and his wife have been accused of misusing public funds since taking office, including attempting to replace a 2-year-old official vehicle with a luxury car worth 3.7 million NTD, purchasing expensive furniture, electronics, and personal items using public accounts, and spending a total of 8 million NTD at the official residence. President Tsai Ing-wen has instructed the Executive Yuan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the matter. Despite the controversy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu stated that the approved procurements were not illegal, and Yi will not be recalled but required to report in writing.
