Recently, a video circulating on Facebook showed a 20-ton giant Guanyin statue being suspended for transport, but the ropes suddenly broke, causing the statue to fall backward and its head to break off upon impact with the ground. This incident sparked discussions among netizens, criticizing the handling of such a heavy statue with thin ropes. The statue, costing 1.7 million NT dollars and made of 15 tons of granite, was located in Yilan, Taiwan. The temple involved expressed regret over the accident and is re-purchasing a new statue from the original manufacturer while discussing compensation with the construction company.
