Reported about 1 year ago
On July 5th, former Taoyuan Mayor and current Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council, Zheng Wen-chan, was taken away by the Taoyuan District Prosecutor’s Office for alleged corruption. After overnight questioning, he was detained the next morning. The Taoyuan District Court ruled for a bail of NT$5 million due to suspicion of violating the Anti-Corruption Act, restricting his residency and travel. Zheng's lawyer stated there were no illegal activities and they would cooperate with the investigation to clarify the truth soon. The court mentioned no suspicion of criminal activity in the money Zheng received and returned over the past seven years, rejecting the request for detention.
