According to CTWANT Weekly, Taiwan faces the peak season for Japanese encephalitis from May to October, with June and July being the most critical months. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes mainly found in rice fields, ponds, and irrigation ditches, with peak biting times at dusk and dawn. Severe cases may lead to neurological damage, paralysis, coma, or death. To prevent this, the Hualien County Health Bureau advises vaccination as the most effective method, along with mosquito repellents containing DEET, Picaridin, or IR3535. As of June 12, 2024, Taiwan has confirmed five cases, with reminders to complete the vaccine schedule for young children to ensure protection.
