Taoyuan Councilor Reveals 'Two Sons of Political Elder Involved' in Corruption Case with Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang

Reported about 1 year ago

Cheng Wen-tsang, chairman of the Strait Exchange Foundation, was arrested by the Taoyuan district court for his involvement in a land rezoning corruption case during his tenure as mayor. Nationalist Party Taoyuan councilor Huang Jing-ping revealed that in addition to Cheng, the case also implicates the two sons of a political elder, who were allegedly involved in the 'Huaya Science Park' case. The scandal involves rezoning agricultural land to industrial land, potentially doubling its value. Suspicion arose when private developers reportedly bribed Cheng to facilitate the rezoning, but the deal was not completed. Recent arrests have shed light on the corruption, adding complexity to the relationship between Cheng and President Tsai Ing-wen, sparking a political storm.
