According to a report by the Ministry of National Defense, Taiwan's procurement of the US-made M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), capable of launching MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), will be considered a strategic weapon once in service and integrated into the joint warfare command system, enhancing operational capabilities. The system will have a range of 300 kilometers and the acquired MGM-140 missiles will be treated as strategic weapons to be authorized for use by the General Staff Headquarters during wartime. The Army is set to receive a total of 29 HIMARS sets, with the first batch to be delivered in 2024 and 2025, and the second in 2026.
