Taoyuan City Councilman Li Yunqiang and his wife, current Kuomintang member and Taoyuan City Councilwoman Sun Yunxuan, were sentenced today to 8 years and 10 months, and 8 years in prison respectively, with 5 years and 4 years deprivation of civil rights, for embezzling over NT$2.89 million in assistant fees. Both can appeal. The court ruled that Li Yunqiang, while serving as a councilman, falsely declared a public assistant for personal gain, and Sun Yunxuan, as his spouse and former public assistant, aware of his illegal actions, still participated in the crime. Li denied all charges, while Sun admitted to falsifying records but provided various explanations for the embezzlement. They were convicted for using their positions to deceive and sentenced for embezzlement.
