The Kuomintang (KMT) Legislative Yuan caucus intends to amend the Public Officials Election and Recall Act by raising the recall threshold or imposing stricter review of petitions to make recalls more difficult. This move is seen as a way to help Keelung Mayor Xie Guo-liang, who is currently facing a recall. However, Xie Guo-liang stated that the amendment would not apply to him and was not designed specifically for him. He believes the three parties in the parliament will discuss the amendment thoroughly. The passage of the clause raising the recall threshold in the Act has brought about differing opinions on when it should come into effect, with the DPP caucus suggesting it should be applied to the next legislative term and the KMT think tank proposing immediate application after the new law takes effect, highlighting the lack of consensus on the matter.

In order to reduce ozone emissions, tree planting has always been an important means to mitigate global warming, conserve water and soil, and purify the air. The Ministry of Environment has been encouraging tree planting across various sectors and has never prohibited the planting of specific tree species. To address recent concerns about tree species emitting high levels of isoprene, experts from environmental protection, forestry, and the Department of Agriculture's Forestry and Natural Resources Conservation Agency and Forestry Research Institute were invited for discussion on July 3rd. While acknowledging the benefits of trees such as landscape value, maintaining native species, carbon reduction, health, and economic benefits, experts emphasized the need for comprehensive consideration of various factors when planting trees to achieve the best results. The Ministry of Environment has been prioritizing multiple control strategies for anthropogenic pollution sources, particularly volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides, to control ozone precursor pollutants. Moving forward, the emphasis will be on promoting green transportation and stricter emissions standards for industries and vehicles in the next four years to address air quality issues, especially the shift from PM2.5 to ozone as the main air pollutant in Taiwan. The Ministry is now focusing on tree planting choices and management from a more cautious and scientific perspective to tackle global climate change and warming, aiming for a healthier, more livable environment by collaborating on scientific research with the Department of Agriculture and academic institutions.
