A woman surnamed Hong in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China, spent over 230,000 RMB (approx. 1.02 million TWD) in April to buy 43 pieces of so-called raw jade in a live broadcast room, under the impression that a Burmese prince would buy them back at 800,000 to 2 million RMB each. However, recent expert appraisals revealed that these 'raw stones' were just ordinary rocks. The broadcaster, nicknamed 'Northeast Little Dong', claimed each piece was valued in the hundreds of thousands of RMB but sold for only 5,000 RMB. After discovering the scam, Hong's daughter alerted the police, and it was found that the broadcaster's license was for selling braised food, not jade. Investigations are ongoing.
