This was seen as the DPP's first intervention in the recall. KMT legislator Wang Hongwei criticized Lin Youchang as a hypocritical pseudo-gentleman for the covert recall in the name of opposing empowerment. The recall organization received over 27,000 petitions and is confident of surpassing the second-stage threshold by June 30. FTNN News Network - June 24, 2024, 8:01 AM. Taiwan's Formosa Plastics Group Mailiao coal-fired power plant is set to decommission Unit 1 in June, and Units 2 and 3 in September of this year and October of next year. The Nationalist Party questions why the government, which claims no power shortage and advocates a non-nuclear homeland, will extend the service of the coal-fired Mailiao plant to fill the gap left by the decommissioning of Nuclear Plant No. 3. This move raises concerns about possible increases in electricity prices and potential impacts on various sectors due to the government's energy policy. They urge clarity from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government. The DPP government is criticized for relying heavily on coal power despite aiming for zero emissions by 2050. The decision to extend the Mailiao plant's service aims to compensate for the power gap left by the decommissioning of Nuclear Plant No. 3, indicating potential future electricity price hikes and financial losses for Taiwan Power Company. The Blue Committee questions why the Mailiao plant, known for its environmental impact, is extended despite claims of no power shortage.

KMT Legislative Yuan caucus secretary Hung Meng-kai was accused by DPP legislator Wu Pei-yi of requesting secret TSMC information from NSC during a committee meeting, where NSC promptly refused and criticized 'parliament expanding powers to infringe on people's rights'. Hung later clarified through a 4-point statement and announced plans to sue. Wu responded using 3 facts and cited parliamentary records, showing Hung's abuse of power. Hung insisted the information was not confidential due to being in the parliamentary records, while Wu criticized his inquiry as aiming at TSMC's data and accused Hung of spreading false information, leading to a formal lawsuit. Wu clarified that her inquiry was on 'emergency response team operations and stable power supply measures in the park', not TSMC data. She criticized Hung for implying parliamentarians shouldn't have the right to inquire about corporate secrets and attributed this to KMT and NPP's passing of the expanded powers bill, challenging Hung to oppose it with her. More details emerge regarding political dynamics and concerns over TSMC's secret leakage, with varying reactions from different political parties and leaders, including responses to potential constitutional violations raised by legislative parties and past controversies surrounding President Tsai's administration.
