On June 16, 2024, at around 5:26 am, a 19-year-old male driver attempted to enter the Yangmei Rest Area on National Highway No. 1 South at 71.3 kilometers near Taoyuan, possibly due to using cruise control without slowing down, causing his vehicle to collide with the rest area's guardrail and then uncontrollably hit 7 parked cars inside. Two individuals were slightly injured and taken to Yangmei Tiancheng Hospital for treatment. The driver refused medical treatment for minor injuries. The police urge drivers to be cautious and not rely excessively on assistance systems while driving.
