Unified Futures provided, compiled by Huang Yanhong on June 11, 2024, at 4:10 pm. The rate cut by the ECB and Bank of Canada is expected to lead to a situation where the currencies of these two countries are prone to depreciation and difficulty in rising. The US Dollar Index is anticipated to continue its gradual rising trend against the backdrop of strong economic data in the US and an expanding interest rate differential with other currencies. Factors to watch this week include May's US CPI inflation data and the June interest rate decisions of the US and Japan, which are likely to increase volatility in currency futures this week. Last week, the Bank of Canada announced a rate cut, becoming the first G7 country to do so, resulting in depreciation of the Canadian dollar. The widening interest rate differential between the US and Canada could put pressure on the Canadian dollar, potentially leading to a gradual decline and supporting the performance of the US dollar.

Japan's inflation rate has exceeded the 2% target set by the Bank of Japan since April 2022, compounded by the yen reaching a 34-year low against the US dollar, increasing import inflation pressures and driving the demand for low-cost 100 yen stores. Experts estimate that the market size of 100 yen stores in 2023 has surpassed 1 trillion yen for the first time, with major players like Daiso Industries Co and Seria experiencing significant growth in sales over the past decade. Despite rising prices, the profitability of these stores is being eroded due to increased import costs caused by the yen depreciation, leading to some stores unable to maintain a 100 yen price point and introducing '300 yen stores' as a result.

Taiwan's electricity supply issue has attracted foreign media attention. American financial media CNBC reported that Taiwan, as a global semiconductor hub, is facing concerns over power shortages, highlighting the significant impact of semiconductor industry supply chain disruptions on the global tech industry, serving as a major warning for chipmakers. The potential risks due to concerns of power shortages, degradation in power quality, and reliability could impact semiconductor industry operations. Taiwan has experienced several power outages in recent years, with experts attributing the issue to a combination of an aging grid, low electricity prices driving up demand, and Taiwan Power Company's ongoing losses leading to worries of power interruptions affecting the semiconductor industry and Taiwan's overall economy. With the industrial sector in Taiwan consuming over 55% of the country's total electricity, any power disruptions could slow down chip manufacturing, potentially causing global semiconductor price hikes and industry shocks.
