Taipower confirmed that the reason was an 'underground cable malfunction', but they were able to restore power to 65% of the affected households (430 households) within 3 minutes and all households by 6:50 pm. In another incident, 786 households in New Taipei City and Taipei City also experienced a power outage due to a transformer system being struck by lightning, resulting in power interruption which was restored by 8:25 pm.
