On June 17, 2024, in Taipei, a woman surnamed Guo, who was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), worried that the disease may be hereditary, decided to suffocate her 2-year-old daughter and self to not burden her family. After her husband found them, he immediately reported to the police. Despite her daughter's death, Guo was saved and is now facing charges including murder of a child, domestic violence prevention law, and the protection of the welfare and rights of children and adolescents law. The case is now shifting to the Taipei District Court.
