According to ETToday, the ticket prices for Himeji Castle, one of Japan's 25 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are potentially going to increase significantly. The mayor of Himeji mentioned that the current ticket prices are too low and they are considering charging foreign visitors four times the current fee to handle over-tourism and castle repairs. The castle, built in the 17th century and consisting of 83 buildings, is known for its well-preserved defense system and magnificent wooden structures. The proposed new ticket price, around 30 USD, would be a significant increase from the current 7 USD entrance fee. The final decision on implementing this price change, as well as the exact timing, is still pending. Himeji Castle attracted 1.48 million visitors last year, with approximately 30% being foreign tourists.
