Reported about 1 year ago

Starting from May 28, the Taipei Department of Health provided free vaccinations of the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) to individuals aged 50 to 64, and all doses were completed last week. Moving forward, the eligible age groups for PPV23 free vaccination will return to Indigenous individuals aged 55 to 64 and seniors aged 65 and above, with no restriction on their residence registration. The original free pneumococcal vaccine coverage in Taiwan was for individuals over 65 and Indigenous people aged 55 to 64; however, due to some vaccines nearing expiration, this year saw a temporary opening for those aged 50 to 64 to receive the PPV23 vaccine. The Taipei Department of Health advises prompt completion of the two recommended vaccines for individuals over 65, with an interval of at least one year between the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) and PPV23. Those at high risk of invasive pneumococcal disease can receive PPV23 eight weeks after PCV13 or PCV15. The return to original age criteria for free PPV23 vaccination aims to ensure those eligible can receive their shots with a reminder for individuals to bring their health insurance cards and check vaccine availability by contacting contracted medical institutions or visiting the Taipei Department of Health's website.
