On July 3, 2024, another fishing boat dispute between the two sides erupted as the Penghu fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was detained by mainland Chinese coast guards near Kinmen on the evening of July 2. The boat carried two Taiwanese and three Indonesian crew members suspected of illegal fishing and is currently being held by the Fujian coast guard. The Mainland Affairs Council stated they will seek an explanation from the mainland promptly to dispel unnecessary speculation. Mainland authorities claimed the boat violated seasonal fishing regulations, operated within a prohibited trawl fishing area using nets smaller than the minimum size stipulated by China, causing harm to marine resources and the environment. The boat also reportedly attempted to disrupt law enforcement operations, prompting warnings and expulsion by the coast guard. The Council aims to secure the safe release of the crew and vessel after clarifying the situation and procedures in accordance with relevant regulations. The incident took place in an area where fishermen from both sides traditionally operate, with Taiwan urging respect for its fishing rights. Security officials pointed out that the boat was operating in waters near Fujian, outside Taiwan's jurisdiction and during China's fishing moratorium, posing a risk of violating Chinese regulations.

With the widespread adoption of edge computing and AI technology, 'Edge AI' has become a key technology for the automation and intelligence of manufacturing processes. Quansun Technology, originating from the research team at Yang Ming Jiaotong University, has developed an intelligent application control solution for edge AI and computing platforms named OOS (OPrueba Orchestration System), simplifying the management of tens of thousands of machines and equipment in manufacturing sites. The OOS platform can assist independent software vendors (ISVs) in integrating the interfaces required by terminal equipment quickly, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 4G/5G mobile communication, and IoT interfaces such as RS-232 and RS-485. Quansun Technology CEO, Ju Hong-xiong, mentioned that the architecture of OOS not only leverages the low-latency characteristics of edge computing, but also shortens time to market, reduces CAPEX by 50% and OPEX by 80%, and efficiently enables a small number of individuals to manage over 10,000 devices and services. Quansun Technology has collaborated with Intel, Palo Alto Networks, CTOne, Yidat, and New Han earlier this year to deepen integration in the fields of information security, image monitoring, and AI inference, simplifying the execution and deployment between IT and OT, enhancing flexibility in the deployment and operation of smart factories, smart agriculture, and smart cities. In order to expand its market presence, Quansun Technology has actively participated in exhibitions such as CES, MWC, and Embedded World this year to enhance international visibility and plans to explore overseas markets such as Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, Europe, and North America.

Despite a slight decrease in delivery volume for Tesla in the second quarter, the drop was less than market expectations and beat its competitor, BYD, securing its position as the world's leading electric car maker. CEO Musk's warning to short-sellers, coupled with optimism about resolving self-driving issues and producing the Optimus robot, drove Tesla's stock price up by 10.2% to $231.26 per share on July 2, increasing its market value by over $60 billion to $724.6 billion. The company announced global deliveries of 443,956 vehicles in Q2, surpassing expectations of 420,000 vehicles and BYD's 426,039 vehicles. Tesla's production volume was 418,316 vehicles, a 14% drop from the previous year but seen as a positive sign to address inventory backlog due to slower sales. Tesla's growth slowdown reflects challenges in the electric car sector, with competitors launching new models and reducing prices but facing lower-than-expected demand. Musk's investments in developing cost-effective vehicles and betting on robots and self-driving tech present his biggest test yet as he aims for significant returns. Analysts remain optimistic, with Tesla's target price raised to $300 and potential to reach $400, indicating a growth potential of about 70%. The second-quarter delivery performance suggests Tesla may have passed its worst phase, and positive changes in demand are expected by late 2025, with Tesla's AI value likely exceeding $1 trillion, making it a highly underestimated AI brand.

According to the latest polls, the ruling Conservative Party led by Prime Minister Sunak may face a major defeat in the upcoming UK general election on July 4, with only 64 seats left, the lowest since the party's inception. The opposition Labour Party is expected to sweep 484 seats, breaking the 1997 record. Surveys indicate a significant lead for Labour over the Conservatives, with Labour potentially receiving over 20% more support. The Conservative Party may only achieve 20% of the popular vote, less than half of their 43.5% in 2019, marking the lowest in modern British history. Labour, led by Keir Starmer, is poised to win overwhelmingly, potentially securing 484 seats, over 159 more than the majority threshold, surpassing Tony Blair's 1997 record. In contrast, after 14 years in power, the Conservative Party may suffer a drastic decline in seats from 344 to 64, barely above the forecasted 61 seats for the centrist Liberal Democrats, creating a humiliating scenario unseen since the party's formation in 1834. The right-leaning UK Reform Party is expected to win 7 seats. Despite the Conservatives' dire prospects, Prime Minister Sunak vowed to continue campaigning fiercely, with former PM Johnson also rallying support for the party. However, political analyst John Curtice cast doubts on Sunak's chances, suggesting his re-election odds are slim. Recent polls show Sunak is the least popular incumbent PM in 50 years, with 75% of respondents deeming him unfit for the role.
