During a press conference on July 1, 2024, the DPP legislative caucus discussed the amendment of election and recall laws, warning the KMT about the consequences. This was in response to recent recall efforts following the amendment of parliamentary powers. KMT lawmakers Xu Qiaoxin, Luo Zhijiang, Wang Hongwei, Li Yanshu, and Lai Shibao planned to visit DPP Standing Committee Member Wu Siyao's constituency in Shilin and Beitou, which was perceived as a first step towards recalling her. In response, Wu welcomed the visit but cautioned against provoking the locals, stating she's not an easy target. The DPP caucus filed a constitutional interpretation against the amendment of parliamentary powers, setting a precedent. Despite the propaganda focusing on parliamentary powers, KMT lawmakers visiting Wu's constituency was seen as a precursor to recalling her. Wu remained undeterred, emphasizing that baseless attacks and smear tactics won't be welcomed by the people. She noted the pressure her remarks have put on the opposition, advising against retaliation and hatred-driven actions. DPP caucus leader Ke Jiaming added that any attempt to recall Wu would backfire on the KMT.
