On July 1, 2024, in the first round of parliamentary elections in France, the far-right National Rally emerged victorious, signaling a drastic shift in French politics with established parties declining rapidly. Marine Le Pen, the practical leader of the party, strategically transformed the party's image and broadened its support base. Le Pen led the party's detoxification strategy to make it a more widely accepted right-wing choice, shedding its past extremist connections and focusing on nationalism, economic protectionism, law and order, while toning down racial discrimination and anti-Semitic rhetoric. With the assistance of 28-year-old nominal party leader Bardella, who resonates with voters on local issues, security, and economic nationalism, the National Rally's transformation and success were crucial. Macron's unpopular policies and political decisions also played into the National Rally's hands, leading to their victory in the European Parliament elections.
