There are more than 1,400 volunteer consultation companies in mainland China, offering expensive services that do not guarantee admission but capitalize on the anxiety of candidates and parents. Some individuals combine social media and become live stream influencers, taking the business of 'volunteer selection planners' to a larger stage, portraying themselves as 'guides' and being highly popular among candidates and parents; however, their fees are high, pricing is opaque, and there are suspicions of fraud.
