According to statistics from the Police Administration, the number of drunk driving cases has been decreasing nationwide for the past two years since the new drunk driving law was implemented; however, Taipei City and New Taipei City have seen an increase in cases. The majority of violators in Taipei City are aged 18 to 30, while in New Taipei City, the age group with the most violations is 40 to 50. Despite the overall decrease in drunk driving cases in the country, Taipei and New Taipei City have experienced an increase, especially among younger individuals. On the other hand, the age group of drunk drivers in Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung tends to be older. Police attribute the increase in cases to a return to normal social activities after COVID-19 lockdowns.

As of June 16, 2024, two years after the implementation of the new drunk driving law in 2022, official statistics show an increase rather than a decrease in the number of drunk driving cases. Experts believe that the reasons behind drunk driving are numerous, possibly related to the convenience of public transportation, societal atmosphere, and psychological pressure among people. While heavy penalties are a tool for law enforcement, their effectiveness in reducing drunk driving may not be necessarily high. Complex factors such as lack of convenient public transportation in remote areas and societal attitudes towards drunk driving contribute to the behavior, making strict law enforcement alone insufficient in curbing the issue.

Senior reporter Li Jinchi on June 16, 2024, at 6:18 PM: MegaBank Taiwan Industry Leading stock ETF (00921), also known as MegaBank Leading Weighted ETF, is counting down to its ex-dividend date on the 19th. The last opportunity to buy in for dividends is only tomorrow (the 18th) with a distribution date of July 17th, providing a distribution of 0.58 NT dollars per unit. Calculated based on last Friday's closing price of 19.63 NT dollars, the one-time dividend yield is 0.295%, with an impressive annualized yield of 11.8%. The main components of this earning distribution include realized capital gains accounting for 60.34%, stabilization fund representing 31.03%, and stock dividends of component stocks at 8.62%. The MegaBank Leading Weighted research team emphasized the rotation of stock market themes and the difficulty for investors to track market changes, pointing out that 00921 selects 33 component stocks from all leading industries in the Taiwan stock market, combining electronics, finance, and traditional industry themes to capture the growth momentum of leading stocks across industries, seizing opportunities for sector rotation and helping construct an investment portfolio that is relatively resilient to downside risks, suitable for long-term asset allocation as a 'standard' theme. Since the Taiwan Stock Exchange included new industry classifications in July 2023, including green energy, home life, sports leisure, and digital cloud, it further enriched the diversity of 00921's tracking index. The MegaBank Leading Weighted research team highlighted that the index tracked by 00921 has caught the trend; optimized through the equal weight mechanism, the ETF's performance is relatively suitable for long-term holding by stockholders or inclusion in asset allocation menus. Looking ahead to the Taiwan stock market, MegaBank Investment Trust indicated that there is room for upward movement to be observed, with support on the downside as well, suggesting investors take advantage of the opportunity by including equal-weighted ETFs and participating in the trend of sector rotation of Taiwan's industry themes. Container freight rates are soaring, with the reintroduction of 'guaranteed slots' during the recent pandemic period. Freight forwarders are integrating slots at high prices for clients in need, priced about 20-30% higher than regular rates. This trend is particularly evident on long-haul routes facing severe vessel and container shortages, leaving only these high-priced slots available for purchase. Despite the steep prices, many clients are willing to pay for the assurance of space compared to air cargo rates. Industry insiders attribute this to the unique circumstances in the container shipping industry during the pandemic, with 'guaranteed slots' making a reappearance as one of the phenomena.
