Both were sentenced to 7 years and 6 months, and 8 years and 2 months in prison respectively for bribery. The Supreme Court recently rejected their appeal, confirming the verdict. The earthquake resulted in soil liquefaction causing several houses to sink in Tainan; hence, the city government initiated a subsidized project for raising and stabilizing sunken houses.
