A man surnamed Hua in New Taipei City viciously attacked a man, surnamed A, in a doll machine shop in April 2023, suspecting A of harming his girlfriend. Hua assaulted A with punches and kicks, leading to severe injuries. Hua was convicted of causing serious harm and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison, with the option to appeal. The court found that although Hua had a criminal history, the attack was not premeditated and no lethal weapons were used.

The Penghu Investigation Division of the Coast Guard Administration recently received a tip-off about criminals smuggling cigarettes into Taiwan on a fishing boat. After a lengthy investigation, a special team intercepted a fishing boat in Badouzi, Keelung, and found 460 boxes (230,000 packs) of contraband cigarettes on board, worth about 15 million NTD.
