According to TTV News, as of June 13, 2024, the hospitality industry is experiencing a severe labor shortage, yet many young people are struggling to find jobs. Statistics from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) show that the youth unemployment rate for 25 to 29-year-olds was highest in Taipei last year, followed closely by Kaohsiung and Tainan. Despite some Taipei eateries raising starting salaries to 40,000 NTD, they still can't find workers. In recent times, egg prices have been steadily decreasing, and even some southern suppliers are saying there are too many eggs that they are feeding them to pigs. With the drop in prices at the source, major retailers are also adjusting prices. Supermarket leader '全聯' announced that starting tomorrow, boxed eggs will be reduced to 47 yuan per box, equivalent to 4.7 yuan per egg; Carrefour's regular temperature washed and selected eggs with 10 pieces are priced at 50 to 55 yuan, a decrease of about 4 to 6 yuan compared to last month. Costco stated that the price reductions in the market are mainly caged eggs, while pasture eggs maintain their original price.

Egg prices in Taiwan have reached a new low in nearly two years, but consumers have not felt the impact as breakfast with eggs still sees price increases. Taipei City's egg merchant association and chicken farming association have called on retailers to moderately reduce prices. Starting tomorrow, Wellcome will lower the price of boxed eggs from 50 yuan to 47 yuan, while Carrefour will decrease the price of regular temperature washed selected eggs by 5 to 8 yuan.
