On the evening of June 12, 2024, after extinguishing the fire, firefighters entered the fire scene for search and rescue. A serious fire broke out in a 7-story residential building in Tucheng District, New Taipei City this morning (6/13), resulting in three deaths. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire might have started from a battery charging explosion. The unique 'scissor stairs' structure inside the building from the 4th to 7th floor led to rapid spread of the fire, a chimney effect creating thick smoke, and complicated rescue efforts for firefighters. The victims were a mother, son, and daughter's boyfriend who were unable to escape in time due to the blocked exit on the 4th floor. While the fire has been extinguished, the high temperature on the 7th floor is hindering the removal of bodies. The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing.
