At the Legislative Yuan on June 21, legislators were handling the reconsideration of the parliamentary power amendment bill through a roll call vote. The two major parties, Kuomintang and Democratic Progressive Party, had the numerical advantage with 62 votes supporting to maintain the original resolution and 51 votes opposing it. The reconsideration failed to pass, and as per the Constitution, the Executive Yuan must accept the original resolution upon over half of the legislators' agreement, and the President should announce the amendments to the two laws. The Democratic Progressive Party announced plans to submit a constitutional interpretation bill and temporary measures shortly after the President's announcement. The amendment bills related to parliamentary powers were passed on May 28, but were criticized for lack of discussion and being seen as empowering the parliament. The Executive Yuan proposed reconsideration on June 6, with President Lai Ching-te's approval. The voting ended with the reconsideration failing, and the Executive Yuan might consider applying for a constitutional interpretation after legal effectiveness. Reconsideration supporters, including the New Power Party, failed to overturn the original resolution due to the joint efforts of the Kuomintang and Democratic Progressive Party.
